Doors Open Milwaukee Madeline Frank
Location 1. Pabst Mansion
Location 2. US Cellular Building
I first went to the Pabst Mansion, I had always wanted to go but never was able to. So when I went there it was nice to see how the servants and the owners interacted but at the same time I was disappointed with the back of the complex. Here is this beautiful old building yet not even 50 feet away from the back of the mansion is a ugly chain link fence and behind that a ugly looking parking lot that is used/owned by channel 12. Apparently there was at one time a carriage house there where the servants would stay and to me that is just as historical as the mansion itself. On the tour we were told that they have been trying to get the land back to restore the house but that, channel 12 won't budge. So one of my new goals is to get a petition started to ask the city to restore the area to the mansion, that and I am personally boycotting channel 12 and all their shows. I mean it looks bad with the parking lot, and I mean really bad.... it just looks horrible.
I also went to the US Cellular building to go to the top of the building and look at the city. We were allowed access to what I believe was the maintenance elevator. That makes sense cause when you got to the top floor it opened up into a area where the machines for the building are held but once you went through a door it opened up into a square hall that wrapped around the building. The view was incredible but not for those who are afraid of heights, luckly I am not. Nearly everyone who was there was taking pictures of the amazing views one was a beautiful view of the lake. I also noticed that there were people there whos age ranged from 1 years old to elderly people. I think it is true that beauty can bring people together from all different walks of life.
Over all had a fun time and had a fun time hanging with Erin and Stephanie, and people will be happy to know that I have not watched channel 12 since.
