Day 1-
I took the bus to get to the Utrecht by MIAD. Traveling by bus is both enjoyable and a necessary evil. I usually wear my headphones on the bus (to avoid unwanted conversation), and this day was no different. I could still hear the bus groaning and wheezing and other passenger's loud conversations. The day was mostly bright and warm. The bus was over-air conditioned and I was ready to get off and walk the rest of the way to MIAD. Around midday during the week, there is a considerable amount of people here and there, getting lunch and wandering around. I am pretty familiar with all of the sights around Water Street between MIAD and Kenilworth, but I still watch outside of the windows whenever I am on the bus.
Day 2-
My dad and I took a drive up Water Street from MIAD back to Kenilworth. Being in a passenger seat is much different from the bus. You are more distracted by conversation, but you are also more comfortable. From the frequent traveling of this familiar route, I did not pay much attention to the scenery, rather, I focused on the familiarity of the turns and directions we took. The day was sunny and clear, we had the windows open and I could hear and smell the fleeting sounds and smells of the city as we drove.
Day 3-
I walked from where I work (Van Buren and Juneau) after I had taken the bus there. My route was adapted to fit this starting point. This time it was later in the day, when the sun had already started to set. It was a little cool in the air, but still warm enough. I walked down the hill on Juneau, hit Water Street, and headed south. Whenever I have walked on Juneau, I have not seen a lot of people. Even when approaching Water, I still didn't encounter much street life. I did, however, see buildings and businesses lighting up for the evening hours. I like the city at night. I have taken other late-night walks and I have never felt unsafe. I don't know if this is because I grew up in Milwaukee, or just because I am naive and nothing terrible has happened to me (yet). It was also windy- I love wind; it makes the city feel alive in a different sort of way.
