Madeline Frank Catalano Square

One of the places I thought to display work was Calatano Square near MIAD, located in the historic Third Ward. It was named after the Catalano family, more specifically after Mariano Catalano, who had the most whole sale products on Broadway at the time. The park was created to be a gathering spot for people, which was finally completed in 1992 as part of a 3.4M streetway project for the city.

The reasoning for the spot is that it is a well known area, and has a lot of foot traffic. The space is large but not to large to have to walk a couple of minutes to get to the other side. It is both open and secluded, open by the fact that you are out side and amoungst the world, but secluded with the outline of trees surrounding the space. There is not only a lot of human foot traffic but also domestic animal foot traffic, for the most part dogs, which could be interesting to observe how the animals react. The other thing is that its a park and come on who doesn't like a park?
