Rachel Evans: Public/Private
Most people can drive past a neighborhood, point out a house and say, "that's where I grew up". For the most part, I grew up in the house I live in now, but for the first three years of my life I lived on Root River Drive in Franklin. As you can see, the neighborhood has been torn down and the Oak Leaf Trail now goes through what used to be our kitchen. When my grandma Evans passed away we had the family gather here to remember her and the house that her and my grandpa built. We placed flowers by a tree and nailed a little plaque to it as well with her nickname "Ole" engraved on it. It was a little odd to be mourning while bikers and joggers passed through. The picture below is one of my favorite pictures of my dad and I. This grate, or whatever you want to call it, is still there. Overgrown, but still there. As well as my grandmother's flowers that she planted, they're out of control but you can tell that the land used to be a private residency. I haven't been there in a couple of years, so I'm sure all of the things that stuck out to me has even changed by now and is slowly becoming more of a public area. I'd like to visit it soon to see if the plaque is still on the tree by the river though.
